The Alabama Small Business Development Center Network is a statewide economic development program designed to enhance economic growth in Alabama by providing management and technical assistance to small businesses. Business Advisors are available in 10 Small Business Development Centers (SBDC’s) located at our member university partners across the state. The Alabama SBDC Network is part of the largest business assistance programs in the United States and its territories. While the Alabama PTAC is primarily designed to help companies pursue government contracting opportunities, the SBDC offers a much wider menu of services.
Business advising is available in these major areas:
- Small Business Assistance
We’re not just for start-ups. While we help hundreds of new businesses each year, most of our clients have existing businesses, and need guidance on how to grow or maintain their venture. Topics include, but are not limited to: Management, marketing, human resources, taxes, marketing (online and traditional), and accounting. - International Trade
The Alabama International Trade Center provides export and import consulting for Alabama’s small business community, in conjunction with its Export Alabama Alliance partners. - Procurement Technical Assistance Center
Like many other states, the University of Alabama hosts a Procurement Technical Assistance Program that collaborates with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The procurement specialists work closely with our small business advisors and international trade specialists to create a full-service resource center. - Capital Access Program
This program was formally established in 2011 in response to an overwhelming demand for capital access assistance from small businesses, especially in light of the protracted banking crisis and recessionary economic climate. The program is designed to target and assist high impact clients, high dollar transactions, and to provide innovative or non-traditional funding solutions. - Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity
The Alabama SBDC Network provides training and counseling targeted at disaster preparedness, business continuity, and recovery.
ASBDC members include SBDCs at Alabama State University, Auburn University, Jacksonville State University, Troy University, University of Alabama, University of Alabama in Huntsville, University of North Alabama, University of West Alabama, and South Alabama. Find an office near you.
